Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

Jeanie Chang is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, who is passionate about effectively serving individuals, couples, and families by promoting a systemic and multicultural competency approach to therapy.  She received her M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pfeiffer University in 2015.  Ms. Chang has a diverse career background.  She first started as a broadcast journalist in Washington, D.C., while also attended business school at Johns Hopkins University, from which she received an M.S. in Marketing in 2005.  She moved to Raleigh with her husband and children in 2006.

Over the years, Ms. Chang dabbled in the corporate world combining both her journalistic and marketing skills, while primarily focusing on raising her four children.  Her experience in motherhood, where she counseled children and parents in promoting optimal family functioning;  stimulated her passion as a clinician, particularly in family practice medicine.  Ms. Chang strongly advocates Avance Care’s integrative patient care model, having grown up with a physician father who believed patients could benefit from therapeutic support in which he lacked time and training.  This has led her full circle to Avance Care, where she has assisted in launching its innovative Behavioral Wellness program.  Ms. Chang also has clinical experience in community mental health where she conducted intakes and clinical assessments for children and adolescents, as well as provided outpatient therapy, particularly with intensive in-home families.  She is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) with experience in grief, loss, and trauma, a Certified Facilitator for Prepare/Enrich, a program used for pre-marital, marital counseling, and marria ge enrichment.  In addition, Ms. Chang holds specialized training in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Diabetes Type 1 and Type 2 management and treatment, as well as Level 1 training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy.  Furthermore, she has facilitated skills groups for adolescents in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).

For her own self-care, Ms. Chang enjoys playing competitive USTA tennis with other avid tennis players, as well as her husband, her favorite mixed doubles partner.  She loves spending time outdoors, being active, and running around keeping track of her children’s extracurricular activities.  She is a proud soccer and band/orchestra mom.  As a big supporter of music and the arts in the community, Ms. Chang also serves on the board of a non-profit association, which oversees some of the top student orchestras in the Triangle.  In her free time, she enjoys going on date nights with her husband, listening to live jazz music and dancing.
